Brazilian Waxing Train

Baby Boomers Jump On the Brazilian Waxing Train.

A Brazilian bikini wax is one of those topics that most people are reluctant to openly discuss. Growing rapidly in popularity, one would think that it was the “20 somethings” that dominated this popular trend. Jodi Cabena, the owner and operator of Healing Harbour Skin & Body Clinique, has found that “Baby Boomers” out number the younger generations when it comes to participating in this procedure.

The mature client is researched, consistent and very smart where she spends her money. This cost effective procedure has many benefits compared to shaving. The most obvious is that shaving the bikini area can be difficult and has potential for injury. A Brazillian wax is thorough from front to back leaving the client feeling clean and smooth. A client must shave daily to obtain smoothness while waxing lasts for 3-4 weeks. Shaving can create rough stubble and a high probability of razor burn and ingrown hairs. Waxing reduces these unwanted results dramatically.

Jodi approaches full body waxing from an artistic aspect, so if complete removal is not your preference she has a modified version of the Brazilian bikini wax that can be tailored to your personal style. She also understands that a bikini wax is a very personal treatment so she strives to make the client comfortable and at ease.

At Healing Harbour the product of choice is Nufree, which has no wax in it at all. Nufree is actually a soy-based product. The only similarity between Nufree and waxing is the way that it is applied and removed. The terminology in this article will refer to the Nufree process as waxing for ease and convenience. Nufree is applied to the client at 98.6 F, which is body temperature. Nufree designs this setting into their equipment so that the client will never be burned by this product. Wax is applied at above body temperature and the setting is determined by the technician performing the procedure. Waxing introduces the possibility for burns that range from annoying to serious.

Nufree is anti-microbial and anti-bacterial, wax is not. The client that is concerned about getting an infection can be at ease with this product. Please research your spa or salon for sanitization and proper procedures. While waxing removes top layers of the skin, Nufree is repelled by moisture in the skin making it safe to use on sensitive skin. Waxing breaks a large percentage of the hair that is to be removed. A client can be waxed and after they leave the salon they may feel substantial stubble. The natural oils of the hair shaft attract the Nufree product and thorough epilations occur. Dramatic reduction in the amount of hair growth soon follows if the client is consistent with her treatment. This benefit is what our clients enjoy the most. Several clients have reported to Jodi that they have received “the same results with the Nufree services as with Laser Hair Removal”.

The discomfort associated with the Brazilian Wax is also a major concern for clients. Since Nufree doesn’t burn or remove layers of the skin clients are amazed in the difference of discomfort that they experience. Also, the first time the procedure is done, you will feel it the most. The second treatment has a 50-75% decrease in the discomfort factor if the procedure is done within a 3-5 week period following the first session. The main reason for the dramatic reduction in discomfort is that in 3-5 weeks the hair growth is still in early developmental stages and has not had the opportunity to grow “roots” at the base of the hair follicle the hair is weak and vulnerable.

There are a few suggestions for clients that Jodi always passes on to clients who are experiencing bikini waxing for the first time. Before leaving home a client may take an over the counter pain reliever of their choice such as Tylenol, Advil, Aleve or Asprin. Shaving the area 7-10 days before the procedure allows the hair to be long enough for the product to grab and perform well. Hair that is too long interferes with a smooth and effective pull with the strip and can cause a lot of unnecessary pain. Healing Harbour also offers a free glass of wine to help the client relax.

Jodi recommends that the client commit to returning in 3-5 weeks to experience the difference the second time around. The client is always amazed the second time.

Some spas or salons use a cold or hard wax to perform this procedure. It is Healing Harbour’s experience from feedback through their clients that this is the most painful way to experience a Brazillian bikini wax. Jodi emphasizes client education so that the client may have the most positive & healthful experience possible.

Healing Harbour encourages you to climb aboard this fun and exciting train so that you may be hair free and carefree too! Who knows where it may take you. You may be in for the ride of you life.
